So speaking of portable screens evolving, a company called Mobile Pixels has designed this crazy thing:
That’s the Duex Float, a 15.6″ touchscreen that attaches to the back of your laptop, then serves as a second monitor.
The hinge arrangement, which allows the screen to fold with your laptop (rather than clinging to it, like this one) is pretty clever, and a kickstand is meant to take the strain off of your laptop’s regular hinge.
In terms of integration, this is probably the best design for an external laptop monitor that we’ve seen.
Sadly they offer no details on how it attaches to your laptop. And it does add significant weight to your laptop, ringing in at 4 pounds (for scale, a MacBook Pro weighs 3 pounds).
Those things aside, plenty of people want this: It’s been successfully crowdfunded with $467,000+ at press time, with 3 days left to pledge. Buy-in starts at $219.
