This year marks the 60th anniversary of Hans Wegner’s eye-catching CH07 Shell Chair.
The CH stands for manufacturer Carl Hansen & Son, and the furnituremaker is releasing a special 60th anniversary version of the chair in Rosewood and Oak.
“When originally designing the Shell Chair, Hans J. Wegner wanted to develop a new type of shell chair without armrests that still features a reclining structure. The chair is characterized by a strong design language with high comfort. To add stability to the three-legged chair, Wegner developed a distinctive double frame that is equally beautiful from all angles. To mark the anniversary edition of the CH07 Shell Chair, Carl Hansen & Son has mounted a small brass plate engraved with Hans J. Wegner’s signature and design year.”
They’re also offering an upholstered version which, somewhat amusingly, uses “matt aniline leather from organically raised Danish cattle.”
The chair will be on the market for a limited time, from this October to December.
