At the event in central Shanghai on 12 December, we will announce the winners of our inaugural Dezeen Awards China, selected from large and small studios from 35 cities across China.
In total, 79 projects have been shortlisted across 17 categories in architecture, interiors and design, plus 18 studios in our prestigious China Designers of the Year categories. These six categories reward the best emerging and established talent across architecture, interiors and design.
Winners to receive paper marble trophies
Architect Riccardo Cavaciocchi and Bentley’s Chris Cooke used material created by sustainable surface manufacturer Paper Factor for this year’s Dezeen Awards China trophies, which will be presented at next week’s event.
Paper Factor material is an evolution of papier-mache that is made from a compound of micro-paper and was developed in collaboration with the University of Salento.
“Paper Factor produces and develops innovative products and surfaces as a material platform for contemporary architecture and design,” Cavaciocchi told Dezeen.
“As every trophy is handmade, the marbling for each one is also distinct, allowing the winner to take home a completely individual statement of their success,” added Cooke.
Paper marble trophies were also given to the Dezeen Awards 2023 winners at a party in London last week. The d-shaped design is based on the brick trophies that Atelier NL’s Nadine Sterk and Lonny van Ryswyck designed for the first Dezeen Awards ceremony in 2018.
Ceremony to be hosted at the Sukhothai Hotel
The winners will be awarded their trophies at The Sukhothai Hotel in Shanghai. The hotel was designed by local studio Neri&Hu, whose founding partner Rossana Hu is a Dezeen Awards China judge this year.
Dezeen Awards China judges will join the shortlisted studios and VIPs to find out the inaugural winners, celebrate and network.
Dezeen Awards China 2023
Dezeen Awards China is the first regional edition of Dezeen Awards, to celebrate the best architecture, interiors and design in China. The annual awards are in partnership with Bentley Motors, as part of a wider collaboration that will see the brand work with Dezeen to support and inspire the next generation of design talent.
